• Added as a site to identify, recruit and randomise adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis as per CFMATTERS protocol
• Conduct tests and collect data as per protocol including sputum collection for off-site transfer
Brief description of the organisation and summary of experience relevant to the project
UHSM is a major acute teaching hospital trust providing services for adults and children at Wythenshawe Hospital and Withington Community Hospital and Community Services. Our fields of specialist expertise – include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplantation, respiratory conditions, burns and plastics, cancer and breast care services.
The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Centre at UHSM has an international reputation for excellence and innovation and is one of the largest CF centres in the UK. Manchester Adult CF Centre has been at the forefront of research with regards to clinical microbiology in cystic fibrosis with particular emphasis on the clinical consequences of gram negative pathogens. Researchers from the Manchester Adult CF Centre are credited with improving CF care globally.
The South Manchester Clinical Research Facility is one of nineteen facilities funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to support experimental research. Our Clinical Research Facility provides an infrastructure of people, space and equipment to allow clinicians, scientists and researchers to undertake experimental research and early phase clinical trials (phase IIa/b). Hosted by the University Hospital of South Manchester, our Facility serves a catchment area of approximately 5.4 million people and has a research focus on respiratory and allergic diseases.
