Institute presentation

The Heidelberg University Hospital is one of Germany’s leading University Medical Centres with a strong commitment to lung research and a member of the German Centre for Lung Research (DZL). The Department of Translational Pulmonology at the undefinedTranslational Lung Research Heidelberg (TLRC) is directed by Professor Marcus A. Mall and provides an interdisciplinary research environment focused on the pathogenesis and novel therapeutic strategies for airway inflammation & infection in cystic fibrosis (CF) and other chronic lung diseases.

The Mall lab is known for its expertise in mouse models of CF lung disease including the development of the bENaC-overexpressing mouse. This murine model develops key features of CF lung disease including spontaneous mucus plugging, chronic airway inflammation and delayed clearance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other CF pathogens and will therefore be instrumental to the preclinical studies conducted by CFMATTERS (WP07).

The CF Centre at Heidelberg University Hospital directed by Professor Mall belongs to the largest CF Centres in Southwest Germany and will serve as the German recruitment centre for the CFMATTERS clinical trial (WP03).
